The service catalog RDM of the RDC at ZPID as well as the associated cost model serve to present in detail all research data management (RDM) services offered by the Leibniz Institute of Psychology (ZPID) as well as any costs associated with these services. Costs are considered according to the cost model of data services from the Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences (GESIS) as the total sum of all overhead costs, material resources, and personnel resources associated with a data service (Netscher, 2019).
The services listed in the catalog are based on the quality level concept defined by ZPID for curating research data. The quality level concept is defined by the following three levels:
- At the first level, researchers are primarily concerned that their data are discoverable and can be used to reproduce the results presented in a published journal article. In this context, researchers are advised to provide their primary data, a codebook, relevant data preparation and analysis scripts, and some bibliographic metadata. All of these materials being smaller than 1GB can be submitted directly through the PsychArchives Submission Assistant (PASA). For uploading materials larger than 1 GB, a manual upload is required. Please contact the RDC team via RDCservice.info@leibniz-psychology.org.
- At the second level, researchers want to ensure not only that their data pertaining to a published study can be used and understood in the context of that publication, but also for any other purpose intended by other researchers (e.g., replication, meta-analysis, answering new research questions, etc.). To this end, the data should be archived in a quality-assured manner. To assist researchers in creating these quality-assured and commonly understood data objects, the RDC at ZPID offers DataWiz as a user-friendly data management tool for psychological research data.
- The third level considers cases where researchers need to manage their data at the project level, which requires professional and individual support of the data curation process over the entire project lifetime. The flat-rate costs calculated for this can be found in this service catalog and the associated cost model of our RDC. For the preparation of a project-specific offer, which includes all RDM costs to be applied for, please contact our RDC team at RDCservice.info@leibniz-psychology.org.

Calculation basis for the chargeable RDM services of the ZPID
The calculation bases for the chargeable RDM services of ZPID are presented below. These are used for the billing of the chargeable RDM services of ZPID provided in a research project.
Data curation via RDC-team
The calculation basis for the personnel resources is the duration of the curation process, which in turn can be estimated from the number of studies per project, the number of data sets per study, and the number of variables per data set. The processing time for the smallest unit of measurement – i.e., the variable – is set at a flat rate of 4 min (see Netscher, 2019).
The cost to be charged on this basis for one hour is a flat rate of 40 €.
Publication and provision of data corpora larger than 1 GB
As a calculation basis for the manual publication and provision of data corpora larger than 1 GB, personnel resources are estimated for communication with the data provider, provision of the file storage location, preparation of the metadata, import of the metadata and data files, and quality control for a flat processing time of 4 hours.
The costs to be charged on this basis for a processing time of 4 hours amount to a flat rate of 160€.
The basis for the calculation of the material costs incurred for the publication and provision of these data corpora is 1€/GB/year for the storage and provision of the data via a web service for online data storage.
If you would like to use our services to implement research data management in your project, please feel free to contact our RDC team at RDCservice.info@leibniz-psychology.org with a brief description of your project and planned RDM activities.
